What Does Hebrews 12:1 Mean?
Hebrews 12:1 means that the Christian life requires deliberate perseverance. Faith is not pictured as a short burst of enthusiasm but as a race that must be continued over time.
The writer distinguishes between sin and other kinds of weight. Some things may not be sinful in themselves but can still slow spiritual progress if they consume attention, energy or affection that should be directed toward Christ.
Sin is more serious because it entangles. It restricts freedom and makes the race harder to run faithfully.
