What Does Psalm 121:7–8 Mean?
Psalm 121:7–8 means that God’s care extends over the whole life of the believer. He is not watching only one moment or one journey; His protection is described as continual.
The language of guarding your life points beyond one isolated danger. It speaks of God’s preserving care over the person as a whole.
The phrase about coming and going is a Hebrew way of describing the ordinary movements and activities of life. Whether leaving or returning, beginning or ending a journey, the worshiper lives under God’s watch.
The final words extend that confidence into the future. The God who keeps His people today is not temporary in His faithfulness.

Psalm 121 is one of the Songs of Ascents, a collection of Psalms 120–134 associated with worshipers traveling toward Jerusalem.
In Psalm 121:1–2, the worshiper looks toward the hills and declares that help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
In Psalm 121:3–4, God is described as the Keeper of Israel who neither slumbers nor sleeps.
